Dan Piraro’s cartoons are the most intelligent cartoons i’ve ever read and for that i love them. i discovered him about 3 years ago while going through my boyfriend’s books. i just subscribed to his blog! for more info about him and his cartoons take a look at bizarro.com
ralph carney plays all kinds of crazy-looking unique instruments and plays all of them really well. he worked with successful people like Tom Waits, Jonathan Richman, William Burroughs, Allen Ginsberg, B-52’s, Marc Ribot, Bill Laswell, David Thomas, Hal Wilner, Elvis Costello, Tipsy, Galaxie 500, Daevid Allen, Mushroom, Oranj Symphonette and The Black Keys.
in case you don’t already know about book mooch, it’s a great way to get books for (almost) free. all you have to do is give away one book in order to receive one, and pay for shipping to send it out. it’s also free to join. a good way to get that out of print book that’s been on your mind. perhaps the whole book mooch thing is better explained here.
BOOK MOOCH
they also have this really nice drawing, by i don’t know who. and the whole website is incredibly cute.
I just joined Project52, i’m at number 719 on the list. this project was created to motivate procrastinating bloggers and website owners to post new content more often. so we have to write at least one post a week for the next year, otherwise i’m guessing they will make sure we are very ashamed of ourselves. i don’t like the idea of quantity over quality, but once a week doesn’t seem overkill.
you can watch this very interesting documentary for free by following this link. talks about what kind of game Monsanto has been playing with our food…
frederic patenaude posted possibly the most interesting article i’ve ever read about the raw food movement, “Did We Adapt to Cooked Foods?”. this guy even contradicts some of the things he has said before, and that’s just the kind of thinking i like. the ability to be objective, and being able to allow your opinions to change and admit that you might have been wrong. so very little people are able to do this. it’s the only way to really learn anything in my opinion.
it’s been a little over a year that i’ve been eating this way, and although there’s no doubt my health is a lot better than it was a year ago, i still have a really hard time eating only raw for one day. when i do i’m usually hungry all the time and it’s really tough. so lately we’ve been eating more healthy cooked foods, like squash and yams and quinoa.
no matter what the experts say, i think you just have to listen to your body, and the healthier you get the more clearly your body will speak to you. like eating too much fat leaves me depressed. i’ve conducted my own experiments, whenever i would feel down i tried eating very low-fat for 2-3 days and so far it’s worked everytime.
my best advice, according to my experience and readings, would be to keep your diet very low-fat (eliminate oils from your life) with lots of fruits and veggies, and some healthy cooked food.
this site is full of live musical performances. they’re not playing on stage though, they’re walking down the street or playing in the bathroom (grizzly bear) or in the streets of Paris. the best ones i’ve seen so far would be scout niblett, sebastien tellier and arcade fire.
if you’re feeling depressed one day, consider coming back to these, i wouldn’t be surprised if you start feeling better.
