help me help you

Since I have a day job and am having a hard time finding time to make art, I decided that if anyone is willing to donate any amount, with a minimum of $1, I will make a post with a link to their site or blog, i will also have a special section for my supporters and it will be added to the links section of my site. You may also provide a short description, but please note that I will not come up with a description for you and no pictures are allowed. And no porn sites either.

Maybe you don’t know much about SEO, maybe you do. But by far the best way of getting up there in the search results is by getting other people on the net to link to your site. Another SEO tip by the way, is that you should carefully select the words you will use for your link. These should be relevant to the content of your site. And if you were to make a significant donation, let’s say $20 or more, I’d be happy to add your name (with your url) to the credits of my upcoming (and first) comic book, “Over the ill” (self-published through Lulu.com). Which will be all about how I was able to improve my health after 12 years of feeling sick all the time. So it’s for a good cause.

I feel like my drawings have taken a big leap recently and that I finally deserve to get paid for my hard work. Not that I’m getting greedy but I wouldn’t mind doing this for a living. I’m aware it’s a long shot but i think it’s worth the try. Or if I can at least work at my other job a little less and do this more often, I’d be very happy with that too.

Also, as I’ve briefly mentioned in my previous post, I will start selling original autographed sketches for $7 a piece plus shipping costs. If interested just click here.

thanks for considering. :-)

my first

someone asked me (by e-mail) for an autograph last night for the first time. so here it is, my very first autograph… which i haven’t really figured out how to autograph my name yet, and it’s looking a little weak. I haven’t sold any sketch yet so this is also the first one i’m sending out to anyone in the world. It was a lot of fun to draw and I realized I enjoy sending drawings out to people, it’s nice to spread some joy.

of course i can’t do this for free, i also have to make money somehow, i’m a strong believer that artists should get paid for their work. it took me 30 something years to be able to draw this way and it takes several trials and errors to get one decent drawing. it’s normal not to get paid until you get good but once you’ve acquired some solid skills i think we deserve to get paid. that being said, i’m willing to draw a sketch for anyone for $7 plus shipping costs…

coming into sight

for the past few months i’ve been tired and bored of my drawing style and obsessively focused on changing it. which is why i haven’t done much else. so for now it looks like this, and although it might change again, i’m hoping i can cling to this one.

new art-o-mat project

i’m working on a new art-o-mat project. it’s going to be a short comic drawn with colored pencils. each will be an original, so not a copy. they sell for $5 and i make a whopping $2.50 per item sold. meaning with shipping costs and the cost of boxes and the fact that it takes about an hour to make each, i’m really not doing this for the money because there isn’t any to make. but i think it’s a good way to get people to know me. here’s a few sketches…

i might also start selling these on etsy.com, but they’ll be slightly more expensive. they also will be original drawings, each being a little different. i got the idea from the shitty products print, which i removed from my site since it looked kind of awful. and i don’t need to have both a print and a comic saying the exact same thing.

fresh from the oven

just a sketch i made this afternoon. for the past few months i’ve been confused as how to draw men. i came up with a style i like for women and then tried to apply it to men but it hasn’t been working out. so i decided to simply draw men and women a little differently, the men will look a little more cartoony. aren’t men a little more cartoony?

greed character

these are my first attempts at developing a character that will represent greed. at first i thought of a dollar sign but my boyfriend pointed out to me that people might think i mean that money is bad. which i don’t, i just think cheating people to make money is bad. also a dollar sign could simply represent the economy.

instead i’m heading towards a character with dollar signs for eyes. i kind of wanted to draw him chubby but since being greedy implies not spending much money i’m thinking skinny might be the way to go. at the same time most rich greedy people seem to be eating a lot… anyway, we’ll see. so far i like the one in the bottom right corner, but he might be a little too cute for the job.

ralph carney sketch

sketch inspired by ralph carney's music

this sketch was drawn after ralph carney left a nice comment on myspace, which says “i really like those gosh durn cartoons!!!”. i was listening to his music for a while and this is what i came up with. she can’t play the trumpet because the music makes her want to move her limbs a little.

he also said he might be interested in working with me for the cover of his next solo album. but that won’t be for a while so we’ll see…

myspace rant

myspace is starting to get on my nerves. people only ask to be your “friend” to promote themselves, but what really gets to me is when they leave either a half-a-screen ad for whatever it is they are trying to do, with no friendly comment along with it. you don’t have to love what i do, and i understand artists use it to promote themselves, but you can at least say hi or thanks or something. i find it rude and selfish and it pisses me off. it’s like you’re using my page as if it was an advertising space.

that’s something i notice all the time about people, in general, they just don’t respect each other… or their body or their environment. or even themselves. so i guess it’s not much of a surprise. that being said, i will keep the myspace for now, because there’s very little opportunity for promoting my comics for free. but i removed the comments section so even if people add comments no one will see them. heh heh.

my experience is that there’s a very narcissistic vibe on myspace, facebook seems to be more about sharing enthusiasm (and voyeurism). it’s just friendlier. but i’m not on there because i find it too time-consuming. i already spend enough time in front of the computer.

drawn & quaterly drawing

here’s a drawing that’s not by me. drawn & quaterly, a nice comics store and publisher in montreal has been using it to promote a holiday sale. it’s also been sitting on my desktop.
