frederic patenaude just posted one the most interesting article i’ve read about the raw food movement; “Did We Adapt to Cooked Foods?”. i really appreciate his ability to be objective and be able to allow his opinion to change and admit that he might have been wrong. so very little people are able to do this. it’s the only way to really learn anything in my opinion.
i’ve been eating this way for a little over a year, and although there’s no doubt my health is a lot better than it used to, i still have a really hard time eating only raw for even one day. when i do i usually spent my day feeling hungry and it can be tough. so i slightly changed my approach, and have started eating more healthy cooked foods, like yams and quinoa and lentils and beans.
no matter what the experts say, i think you just have to listen to what your body has to say, plus the healthier you get the more clearly and loudly your body will speak to you. just like i’ve noticed that eating too much fat leaves me depressed. i’ve conducted several experiments, and whenever i would feel down i tried eating very low in fat for 2-3 days and so far it’s worked every time. i suggest you try your own experiment. it’s kind of fun and makes you feel like both a scientist and a guinea pig. just stop swallowing the suspect for a few days and see what happens.
my best advice, according to my experience with health problems, and readings, would be to keep your diet very low-fat (eliminate oils from your life) and eat loads of fruits and veggies, especially greens and some healthy cooked food. i find that i feel best when i limit myself to one meal of cooked food per day, preferably at lunch time. lots of fruits and smoothies for breakfast and a BIG salad for dinner. if i’m still hungry i’ll just eat more fruits.
